Shipping for Success Part 3

Before you ship the package there is another element that you want to add to each and every order. It is creating that wow factor by including things that most companies would not think of or put in the extra time to do which is going to help your company stand out more. This is done through adding in a very simple piece of paper and a small added thank you bonus that will cost you pennies on the dollar.

Instruction and Tip Sheets

Most products that you sell come with instructions. Typically these instructions are at least in two languages and everybody hates going through them because they are simply annoying, especially when dealing with electronics items. This is why creating your own instructions that come with tips is the perfect opportunity for you to connect with your customer.

Realistically starting this out will be the most time consuming part, especially if you have a lot of products. However the payoff will be well worth the effort. If you have similar products such as aquariums, then you can keep the tips limited to each aquarium type. So for example you can put fish care tips for all of your fish aquariums and turtle tips for turtle aquariums and so forth. In the event that you have many products that will take time to build a tip sheet for, then start off with your most popular products working down to your least popular products.

One key thing to remember when implementing this strategy is to know that it will take time to build these tip sheets. Do not allow yourself to get frustrated and understand that when you are first starting this, it is like establishing any new system and will not be done overnight. When seeing this strategy either people become overwhelmed or they do not take their time when writing the tips out. This is the wrong way to go about implementing this strategy.

Now you want to keep the instructions short and mixed in with the tips to accompany each instruction as show in the example below.

  • After you clean the aquarium and place in the dirt be sure to have some type of enclosure that the turtle can go into for shade. Despite these types of turtles are desert creatures, it is still nice to offer different areas where they can beat the heat.
  • You want to set up a heat lamp at the top of your aquarium. To make your turtles new home even more enjoyable you can also purchase heated pads to put at the bottom of the tank from our website. This will add top and bottom heat to ensure that the turtle is warm even when they are underneath a shade point.

Not only would this be helpful tips for the turtle owner who bought the aquarium but it also brings out new features that the owner can implement. If they did not already have those additional suggested products then they would know they could come to you to obtain these products. This creates a helpful customer instruction sheet that builds a business relationship while cross selling simultaneously.

One key to making this successful is by keeping the upsell or cross promotional items related to what they are buying. So if you are selling a turtle aquarium for desert turtles, you do not want to put in just any turtle product as there are also aquatic turtles. Do not try to promote or cross sell items that are not related to the product that they bought. We already know that if the customer bought a desert turtle tank or starter kit, that they are interested in desert turtles. We know that if we suggest products that they can use for desert turtles, then they will be more receptive to these items than any other item out there. The only exception to this rule is if they purchase multiple items such as a desert turtle starter kit and a dog leash. We would then put in a tips sheet for the desert turtle aquarium and then a tips sheet for the dog leash where we could promote items related to dog care, doggie bags and anything else that would fit well with a dog leash.

One last rule of thumb is to always put in some type of instruction and benefit with the items you are promoting. People do not like to be sold, they like to be educated and informed. Do not make your tips sheet come across as sales copy. Make it conversational and fun. You can do this by adding fun text, headers, footers and pictures. As long as you educate, engage and excite the customer then you will be on the right track for creating a lifelong and repeating customer.
