Shipping for Success Part 2 of 4

After the confirmation then we go onto step two which is turning a sales receipt into a marketing tool. This is all done by staging the sales receipt for success. You can save time by creating a template that follow these guidelines. Not only will it be worth the little extra time and money to do this, but it will also set the bar higher for customer expectation and satisfaction which will make it harder for your customers to be stolen from you by the competition.

Staging the Sales Receipts

It might not seem important now, but more and more companies are staging sales receipts. If you go to a restaurant including fast food establishments, you will more than likely see a survey that says if you complete it then you will receive a free item such as a drink or food. What people do not realize is that the majority if not every time it says you have to purchase some type of a menu item. So this restaurant will obtain a survey and have you repurchase food. This is the same type of strategy that you can use with your sales receipt.

In order to make this effective there are some standard things you need to do along with some customized things you need to do to tailor this to fit your business. Not all businesses are the same and you do want the uniqueness as well as personality of your business to shine through in each one of these strategies.

Most people use e-mails as a way to send sales receipts since e-mails are faster and do not cost any paper or a stamp. If you are not using e-mail sales receipts then you need to start doing so. If you give the option of text or e-mail sales receipts, always use e-mail sales receipts and not just text receipts alone. In the rare occasion that someone asks why you do e-mail two types of receipts then repeat these words, “We do text and e-mail receipts to ensure that you receive the sales confirmation of your product. While text receipts are great, we are limited to the amount of information that can be sent versus an e-mail.” Not only is it logical, but it is also the truth.

You want to make sure your font is increased to a bigger than normal size and you want to highlight, color and bold your company name, the product name, the customer’s name to give attention to them, the product they ordered that they are excited about receiving as well as your brand. Also do not put a generic name such as “Dear Customer” or their last name, “Mrs. Jones”, because this makes the message impersonal. Use their first name as if you were lifelong friends and conversational. Remember you want to build a long term business relationship with them so use something such as this example.

Paula,

All of us here at XYZ wanted to let you know that we really appreciated your order for our Deluxe Kitchen Set. We want you know that your trust in our company is appreciated and we will do everything we can to make sure you have more than a satisfactory customer experience.

Paula, in addition to our lifetime warranty and ability for you to contact our customer service team at any time, we also wanted to include a coupon for 10% off of your next order as well as suggest some other related products that would go well with your deluxe kitchen set.

We appreciate your order and look forward to earning your business again soon. If anything comes up and you need assistance you can reach us at the number below or by email.

This gives you a good example of what you want to type and how to keep it short but yet effective. How many times have you read a sales receipt like that? More times than not you rarely if ever see anything like that at all. Not only will this make you stand out but you also are explaining that they are receiving a coupon and you are suggesting other products to go with the product they just bought. This is a personalized sales receipt that has a short message built into the receipt which builds a great business relationship between that customer and your company. If for some reason they did not read the e-mail sales receipt, you can spend the extra time to print out this same sales receipt and place it with the product to ensure that they did receive it.Remember, this is not just a sales receipt, it is a marketing tool that will let them know they have support, that they will receive a discount by ordering from you again and that you are suggesting other products that would complement the product they just bought from you. When done effectively, this creates a powerful tool for you to use to bring in repeat business and for you to stand out to your customers.
